| Charlotte was promised a 'safe space' at school where she could chill out when it all gets too much.
This would prevent her from wandering around the school and the staff not knowing where she is. (Like they give a stuff!)
Anyway, first day back today and I am informed that she WON'T be getting her 'space' as they don't have the room.
So, she will allowed to simply walk out of the classroom and go anywhere she likes. There are plenty of places she can tuck herself away and nobody would know where she is. What if the building needed to be evacuated? She hates sudden noises (fire alarms for example) and would panic and I can guarantee she would hide away and not come out even if she was called. This means that in a genuine emergency someone could be risking their life to try and find her.
Yet another meeting with the SENco on the horizon, methinks. |

| how can they justify just letting a child walk out of a classroom? I hope your meeting goes well, Im afraid in cases like this you really need to point out the dangers and give the worst case scenario to frighten them into giving C the space she needs, make them realise that if any happens to C they will be held responsible. Hope you get this sorted hun |

| I tried that, which prompted them to offer her some space.
That WAS last term though, and they obviously think that it either doesn't apply or I may have forgotten.
How very wrong they are!
She has always left the room (I think they let her go for an easier life for them) I just hadn't been told! |

| well it certainly wouldnt be an easier life for them if she got herself into trouble. I would write down all your concerns and send copies to school , the ed authority and anyone else relevent. |

| They simply don't 'get it'!!
I will certainly write it all down and email my 'contact' in Surrey CC, she is deeply sympathetic towards ASD children so maybe she can help me.
It can't hurt, as C is an accident waiting to happen.... |

| Awww hun how bloody horrible, WTF are the school playing at!!!! It makes me sick to my stomach to think of how much neglect goes on when u put ur trust in people, that goes for the old folk aswel as our kids & adults.
I echo what misty has said and NEVER EVER give up, keep battering away at any walls that u come against! It shouldnt be this way but this is a part of life that i am realising more & more.
Keep us updated, good luck & im sending some _________________ Northern lass born & bred! |
