Ever heard of MCDD?

A contact in Canada (where PDA isn't recognised) has suggested, after some questioning, that C is showing traits of MCDD. (Multiple Complex Developmental Disorder)

Now, I've read up on this, and as far as I can tell, there doesn't seem to be much difference between PDA/ASD traits and MCDD traits.

Admittedly, the stuff I've been reading is all either US/Canada based or so technical that I need a flippin' dictionary for every other word, so I was wondering if anyone has even heard of MCDD and what the differences are?

C shows ALL the characteristics of PDA but there have always been some unexplained areas of her behaviour that PDA doesn't cover. Could this be an overlap? I don't question the PDA dx, it fits very snugly!

Bambi? Any thoughts? You know all about overlapping conditions hugging

There is a little thread going on over on the PDA site where parents are trying to decide what IS and ISN'T PDA, so maybe there will be more light shed for me!

Mum2c well this is of great interest to me as u know with what i have been told about T.

I do not doubt PDA either as T fits the criteria snugly too, however i have been told by various people that T is a complex child, admittedly i have not read anything on MCDD but i will when i get the chance.

An overlap in conditions is quite common with children on the spectrum and i do not doubt T has a few things 'going on' due to his behaviours and then to be told he has an ovelap of conditions did not suprise me at all.

I will post more later when im back but i have to rush off to get T from school then take him & C to town for C to have his eye test & get Ts specs adjusted. Its Ts bday 2moro, the BIG 8!!! so its been hectic for the last few days and not had chance to get on.

I will be relaxing this eve with a vino and will get to catch up on what i have missed!

Awww bless ya, i do think tho that the 'complex' part of it is a statement of the fact that there are complex problems that cannot be pin pointed as such. I would not be suprised if T was this, even tho myself & his Paed knows he is PDA & Aspergers, the other conditions just make up his complex character but them 2 are definately at the forefront.

The older our children get the more things show and come to light, this is what Ts Paed has told me also, i know my son and i know a lot more than most professionals that have been involved (which is not hard!) but i am the expert on my son because i see how he has interacted and behaved for all his life.

Like with PDA, i never had any answers for the way T would role play, when i say role play it is a big part of his life and he loves to make up stories that are simply not true. Example: T told his teacher at his last sch that he had been to france one wkend and seen his Grandma another wkend (2 seperate occaisions) when the teacher said to 'oh T had lots to say about, this & that' i had to tell her nope he hasnt done this & that, and i was met by a strange look!

To the listener u would think what T said was true, he says things like they really happened and has an amazing imagination but the fact of it all is, its all not true. T asked his friend on the way home from sch the other day 'what aniumal do u want to be when ur older' this was met by a laugh from his friend telling him he wont be an animal when he is older, T will be if he has anything to do with it! bless his cottons! and this was only ever recognised for what it is when i was told he has PDA and to research it.

I think we will learn so much about our children as they mature and by god i will embrace it all, i may not like much of it (who does like being attacked for nothing?!) but this is life as i know it and im willing to learn as much as poss to help us both and the family as a whole.

Mum2c i will most definately mention this condition to Ts Paed and see if he has any info or links, he works a lot with a professor who specialises in mental health and travels to other countries to learn more (such a devoted paed Very Happy

) so whatever he can shed some light on i will most definately share with u.

C has invented a whole new place. It's called the Magical Land, the sand is made of whipped cream (even though it's useless for making castles with, apparently!) and it's where the Dogs Light Team come from. C and the DLT (usually Thunder and Lightening, but there are others) go on missions after dark (via the bedroom window usually!).

She takes every day stuff to the Magical Land and uses it there. For example we were told we were in for a heatwave, so guess what's happening in the Magical Land?

I am trying to get hold of our paed too, although if there is an assessment for MCDD it'll have to be done at home with a video camera or something as her PDA prevents her from having strangers anywhere near her. There's a survey on the PDA Contact Group website and that's where this all started from. It certainly fills some gaps though....

The best site I've found so far (haven't finished looking yet) is the Autism Research site www.researchautism.net but there may well be better ones...

A story T told me was that Bambi was pregnant & didn't want me to know so they go on holiday without me!! They have been all over the world without me!! Where did you leave the baby Bambi cos you must of had it by now!!! Heehee!! xx
